Amongst all of this overwhelm we tend to forget simple strategies that most forget that can have a powerful effect on your seo rankings.

Most people learning or applying seo strategies have a good understand of how important the right backlinks can be in order to rank high.

So today in this post we will cover one simple overlooked concept that can be a very powerful tool in your seo toolkit.

We are talking about internal links!

What are internal links? They are links from pages that belong to one domain name. They are links from one page to another. Either inner pages that link to the homepage or inner links that link to  other inner pages.

If you were to look at any specific website, you’d see a natural occurrence of internal linking. The trouble is this is usually something that happens naturally that could be used strategically to improve the rankings and visibility of your web pages and website.

Internal links allow search engine bots such as GoogleBot to discover other pages on your website. The other fantastic benefit of internal links is their ability to pass or point importance to a specific page you’d like to rank. If one page gets a lot of internal links that can signify to Google that the page carries some importance. Internal links can also distribute or pass link power to those page we want to be highly visible in Google.

The anchor text of your internal links is also very important. Just the same as external links, what your anchor text says internally can help Google understand contextually what a page is about.

You can specifically plan and setup inner pages with internal linking to your most important pages. This concept is usually called a content or link silo. It is the practice of creating pages of content that pass importance to a specific page and it can be implemented in a tiered structure for the best results.

We’ll cover silo architecture in another post.
